Wishful thinking....

Well, clearly I don't do much blogging, but this morning as I went though my emails I came across this story and wanted to share. Of course it's jewelry related, but as usual for me it's linked to family.

A year ago, with the passing of Zsa Zsa Gabor I felt a ping and was reminded of my grandfather. The memory of watching Green Acres and other shows she would make guest appearance in while sitting along side my Hungarian Grandfather. He would make comments or criticize Ms. Gabor, (I never knew why he felt so strongly about the 3 sisters) but to me she was glamorous. I clearly remember thinking how I loved the jewelry and furs she wore and wished to have some like that one day.

So, the news of her Harry Winston necklace going up for auction allowed for me to go back and fondly think of my grandfather and once again how much I would love a necklace like that. While it's certainly not attainable for myself (or most of us), I am grateful for the memory, the appreciation and the continued wishful thinking.

Hope you enjoy the read.

In good times and in sad...

I am sure that I mentioned somewhere in our About Us page that we have built relationships and have made connections with a large part our clients. As time goes on and through the years we have the privilege of sharing laughs, holidays, weddings, births and overalll good times - because hey let's face it jewelry is a luxury mostly saved for the celebrations of life.

Unfortunately sad days do come, sometimes expected and sometimes unfairly too soon.

A few weeks ago we attended a funeral of the Patriarch from a family with whom has been loyal from our early beginnings. Over the 30 plus years they have entrusted us and we have shared those happy occasions and laughs. This family has referred us to countless friends and family - for that we are beyond grateful.

Although not one to make jewelry purchases in his later years we were kept up to date by his children and grandchildren of how he continued with his golf game and his overall well being. Knowing that he passed at the age of 99+ years of age was comforting in that he lived an amazing life. His funeral was truly a celebration of his life and on that day, although his physical being was no longer with us, his memory and his love for his wife of 57 years would always be remembered.

Well that day was just 3 weeks ago and now this evening we are once again saddened and yes shocked, by the news of the passing of the Matriarch to this wonderful family. She was an amazingly strong, beautiful woman who had such grace. She was very much loved and respected. Clearly she loved hard because her sudden passing is a testament to the love they shared and that of her broken heart.

Words can not be spoken of how sorry we are for this family, who were not just "clients" but friends.

Max and Shirley, thank you for believing in us, for sharing your family with us and for allowing us to help build the momentos of your celebrations. We are grateful to have had the years of knowing you.

The Holidays Are Coming

Yes, it's that time of year when I start to rack my brain to find a way to thank all of our customers for their loyalty throughout the years. People will often ask when we will be having a "sale" and our usual response is "everyday is a sale"! However, without a doubt as the holiday season approaches and the pressures of finding that "special sonmething" is lingering, we do our best to come up with the right offer to help make a small or large purchase easier. Especially this year when times remain tough, budgets are limited and our inventory is spilling over! All that being said, I am in the process of creating a great offer ~ so keep an eye on your mailbox, be sure to like our Facebook Page and if you'd like to recieve any info via email, please make sure to send us your address so that you do not miss out.

Multi Task on Vacation

Every year, twice a year we close to take advantage of a 3 day weekend. Memorial Day and Labor Day, and try as I might to get "away" and enjoy time with family and friends. This past weekend was no exception. Here we are on our last night and I am well rested, although I have been working to ensure my family have a fun weekend, I've also been sneaking in texts and emails to answer questions and, making new connections and introductions for work. The saying goes 'All work and no play..." Well, I believe that "All Play and no work makes you lazy" Here's too Labor Day - for the people that believe balancing work is a labor of love.

Little Change

33 years ago today, I was 10 1/2 years old. WOW, TIME FLIES!!!
This is where I spent my 1/2 birthday and for those of you trying to figure it out, yes I am 43 years young! This is pretty much how it looked all those years go, nothing has changed. Well, from the outside nothing has changed, but the inside sure has. In 3 decades time I have watched jewelers come and go, yet I steadly watched my fathers tiredless hard work grow our family business. This is where I spent a lot of my childhood days with my younger brother. My parents were starting a new business and putting everything they had into it, so the thought of paying for a babysitter wasn't an opption. Wondering how much fun my childhood was being couped up inside? Well, it was pretty.... surrounded by sparkling beautiful jewelry. Exciting since there was a Standard Shoe store next door (those are long gone) and I could get lost in there for hours and may also explain my love for shoes.  Fun comes to mind, because there was always something to do, yes there was work to be done.  Some would say I grew up too soon, because I was with adults most of the time when not in school, but I LOVED it! I got to clean jewelry, move merchandise around, write up sales receipts, stamp envelopes and so many other things. Funny....I still do all of those things! I had a lot of responsibility at such a young age and it helped form who I am today.

So, let's fast forward to today and you find me and my dad side by side, just like all those years ago. Well, honestly there isn't quite as much side by side time because I have a young family I want to spend time with, but there is a lot of phone calls and messages between us. We are a great team, always have been!

Change happens and change can be good, but in the case of Galinda's Jewelry it's the fact that very little change is what has made us who we are to succeed in an industry of people who come and go.
